Watching a documentary about Simon and Grafunkel, there was a bit in there about the bass player they used for the "Bridge Over Troubled Water" album, and the bassist was talking about having to find and then learn (almost on-the-fly) the 8-string bass guitar.
Me, I'd never heard of such an instrument, but listening to the song "Only living boy in New York" and it comes into it's own, amazing.

British band Royal Blood had a huge hit figure it out a couple of years ago and the band in effectively a drummer and a bass player but the sounds he gets out of the bass are just stunning , sure Mark King from Level 42 plays a multi string bass as opposed to the normal 4.

I've played this since I was 18 several times each summer since and now I'm in the Autumn years. Absolutely brilliant album. I love how raw it is. Class album.
