Dodgy Fish & Chips Anyone

If you go to a British "chippy" you don't get vinegar, they use "non-brewed condiment", it is a concoction of chemicals that is watered down to give a vinegar flavour - only because it is much cheaper than "real" vinegar. They are not allowed to put it in a container that resembles a vinegar bottle (you can argue over what that looks like) - not that anyone notices!

Never knew that o_O but I'm pretty sure that many of the chippies which have an eat in option no doubt refill their Sarson's bottles with that concoction to give the impression.....

Shocking really as vinegar really isn't prohibitively expensive in the first place....

Heinz have also started to put a red band around the window in their sauce bottles that matches the colour of the contents so that if a cafe etc refills it with an inferior substitute it won’t match the colour of the band.
You used to be able to refill Sarsons Vinegar bottles but you can't anymore, probably for that very same reason.

While we are on the subject of Heinz Ketchup, I have a serious issue with their new style dispenser-top (you know that with the old ones, you're supposed to store the bottle upside down, flip the lid and squeeze the bottle to get the sauce) the old one has worked perfectly well for years, neh, decades!!! but the fools have replaced it with one that as soon as you flip the lid you firstly end up with sauce EVERYWHERE but on the food on your plate, ceiling, walls, fridge door, cooker etc. and secondly you have to clean the lid fully before putting it away.
WHY DID THEY DO IT :fp::15::20:

I reckon all the product designers at Heinz had the remit to annoy you as much as they possibly could with their new bottles :D

Exploding sauce bottles!

That container reminds me of the concentrate we dilute and soak our clothes in to ward off ticks in the summer. Normally used on cows and horses but hey...also super effective for hiking and camping. Scouts swear by it. : )

RE Heinz sauce bottle wouldn't you think they'd exhaustively test them before opting to use in Production . In similar vein Colemans Mustard powder tins are full to the brim , it's hard to prize the lid off which always results in spillage and if there's anything you don't want in the air your breathing in it's mustard powder, I like the traditional tin shape etc but wish they would look at an alternative method of opening . It would be easy to make the tin larger and underfill it but you just know there will be an outcry to say Colemans are robbing customers because the powder doesn't fill the whole tin.

One final rant is pints of cider in the pub why don't they go back to using a glass with a line because its impossible to carry a pint of cider without spilling some of it they fill it to the brim .

Your latter point is something I'd forgotten too! The simple reason I'm guessing is the glasses cost a little less to make and the drink they serve is also a little less than a pint. Probably all about filthy lucre to quote Count Arthur!!!!

One more progressive packaging innovation is most tins now have ring pulls on top of them, gone are the days trying to prise open a tin and cutting yourself on the jagged edges. I still have a scar where I got a very deep cut trying to fish a lid out of a can of baked beans!!!

Try opening them with rheumatoid arthritis sometimes it's easier turning the tin upside down and using a tin opener.

Sometimes she says " theres an unknown person at the door" and I'm like " seriously? How many people do you actually know? "
